Através do controle inteligente configurável da GIGABYTE, o i-RAM funciona como um disco rígido SATA padrão, com velocidades de transferências de dados de 1.5Gb/s. O i-RAM é um RAM drive. Trata-se de uma placa PCI com quatro soquetes DDR-DIMM aceitando 1 GB de memória cada, sendo 4 GB total. Nessa placa você cria um disco virtual na memória RAM nela presente. Como a memória RAM é muito mais rápida do que um disco rígido, os dados nela armazenados são carregados quase que instantaneamente. É possível "instalar" o sistema operacional e aplicativos básicos neste RAM drive. Quando o computador é desligado, o sistema coloca a memória em modo de hibernação, ou seja, a fonte do computador continua alimentando a memória para que os dados não sejam perdidos. Caso você remova a placa do micro, desconecte o PC da tomada ou simplesmente falte luz, não há problema: a placa tem uma bateria recarregável que armazena os dados na memória por até 15 horas.

Super fast and a must for those who wants to maximize performance
Strengths: Lightning fast, dead silent & stable.
Weakness: 4GB Max, SATA not SATA II and price.
I did a fresh install of Windows XP on my i-Ram and it boots up very quickly. I own a Raptor and it's fast, but not as fast as the i-Ram. The feature I love the most is the silence. There's no ticking, spinning or vibration sounds made when accessing data. I can't wait until Giga-Byte comes out with a faster interface and more memory space. GigaByte iRam perform unbelievable Speed
Strengths: Superfast, start a PC within 6 second. There is significant speed improvement on all program even installed on other HDD.
Weakness: Small in size. Max of 4GB in size. Very expensive after installed 4GB of RAM.
This is a product giving you amazing speed. There is no other HDD can compare with it. You may want to do RAID1 to form a larger HDD of 8GB by two iRAM.
I am not sure if it support Hi-Density RAM. If it supports, we can save a lot of money. Also, the 2GB single DIMM ram is on market now and there are many successful result using 4 2GB ram to form 8GB drive.
