Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160 GB Internal Hard Drive

Fantastic Hard Drive!

Strengths: 3 Gb/s, Quiet, Great Warranty.

Weakness: None noted.

I have always been a big fan of Seagate drives. This drive is fantastic for its price and comes with a great warranty. It runs cool and quiet. I like this better than my other WD drive!

Good performance and quiet

Strengths: Fast for bulk reads, silent, Seagate history of reliability

Seagate is one of the more reliable hard drive manufacturers I've encountered since my first encounter with one of its drives over 17 years ago. This SATA drive does what it is intended for very well. Installed in a new rig (AMD x2 4400+, A8N-E, eVGA 7800GT, OCZ Elite Platinum 2GB, Hiper Type R 580W) and got it going with no fuss. Windows installed quickly along with my work related stuff like Office, SQL Server, Visual Studio, etc... Then Soldier of Fortune, Quake and Half-life.

Overall performance was noticeably faster than my old ATA-100 drive. Can't say exactly how much faster but it's at least a few seconds faster when firing up my database. When playing games, loading maps, mods and saved games is much faster. The new machine with generally better hardware (CPU, MB, RAM) does have some impact but I was measuring initial load time so the impact is mostly minimal.

Last test was copying files from my DVD drive to the SATA drive and the same to the old ATA drive using robocopy. It was at least 40% faster for a 1GB copy. I'm wondering if the OS and antivirus app being on drive C (the SATA drive) had an impact but hey, 40% is already plenty fast (though it's sequential reads).

As for noise, my old ATA Seagate was relatively quiet but this new drive is barely audible. At the discounted price I got (under $100 express shipped), this is a great deal for a great drive.

Runs cooler and quieter than Western Digital

Strengths: Beats the socks off of Western Digital

Weakness: None so far

This one beats the Western Digital equivalent by a mile. The equivalent is the WD Caviar SATA/II 7200RPM 160GB WD1600JSRTL.

- Runs cool, around 50C; 62C for the WD
- Thinner than the WD
- Lighter than the WD
- Quieter than the WD

The only thing I haven't tested is the speed, but looking gat the specs they're about the same.

I found this drive very easy to install. This is the first Seagate drive I have purchesed. I was always a Western Digital Guy. My brother told me to try this one and I am glad I did

Ultra performance, Long warranty, super cool and quite

Strengths: Runs very cool and quite. Comes with 3 years seagate warranty.

Weakness: none

I got this HDD during compUSA thanks giving sale and I am very happy with this purchase. This is my first seagate. It is smaller than western Digital, it runs very cool and quite. The performance is real good. I can't think any issues with this Hard drive.
