amd boxed cpu 5600

Strengths: low cost

Weakness: fan is not as good as Intel's

I bought this around 149. It was cheaper than Intels for the same Ghz. Fan was simple one. No frills. Cpu is fast and easy to install. Just strap the bands against two plastic parts. I am scared that if the plastic pieces break off, then the fan would no longer hold the cpu anymore. Thermal grease is pre-applied so no need to buy any. cpu easy to install.

best buy for the $

Strengths: very fast, 64 bit dual core, very inexpensive

upgraded from a 2700 xp and the difference is night and day. matched with a 570 sli mobo & 2 gig of ram, i have a screaming new system for under $500. i wouldn't buy anything other than an AMD and imo the 5600 has the best performance for the price.

Great CPU... Excellent Value

Strengths: Excellent Speed, good amount of cache and relatively cheaper than the intel equivalent.

Weakness: Needs an aftermarket fan/heatsink. OEM runs hot even without heavy gaming and overclocking

Built a new machine with this chip and it's awesome. Coming from a Pentium 4 this thing runs super speedy. Now that prices have been lowered it's an even better deal. Great performance/price value.

Great CPU!

Strengths: Screamer! Easy install, quite fan. Super fast vs. Intel in same price range.

Weakness: Not as clockable as Intel cpu's.

Lots of speed at a decent price. Uses AM2 socket which is good for future upgrades. As one reviewer mentioned, it can't beat intel's 6600, but the 6600 also costs $50 more that the 5600.

Very good

Strengths: Dual core, relatively low price.

Weakness: Cooling fan.

The processor costs way less than Intel's Core 2 Duo E6600, yet it performed as good as E6600. Because this processor uses 90nm tech. instead of new 65nm tech., it consums more power and generates more heat than Intel processors, but not too bad. Because Athlon 64 processors has memory controllers built in to the processor, it out performs Intel in memory latency. OEM Cooling fan and heatsink is...

Incredible price for performance

Strengths: Unlike some earlier Athlon 64 X2 models, the pre-applied thermal paste is on the heatsink-fan, not the processor. Thus installing a 3rd party heatsink-fan with quality thermal paste is simple.

Weakness: The only weakness I can foresee is the limited overclocking potential compared to the Core 2 Duo. However, at stock speeds, the price for performance is unbeatable.

I would recommend this product to anyone interested in purchasing an AMD dual core processor. If you are set on overclocking through the roof, I suggest an Intel Core 2 Duo as an alternative. The AM2 socket that is required to use the X2 5600+ is a great upgrade from the 939 socket because it allows the use of DDR2 and it will make future upgrades easier and more convenient.

Fast !!!

Strengths: Very fast processor.

Weakness: None.

This CPU is so fast. Used with its own fan, it even runs fairly cool (under 150F). Not sure what the Intel Core Duo equivalent(in speed) is, but there is no doubt that you can find this one much cheaper (and build a system for much less than for the Intel Core Duo. A 3-yr warranty does not hurt either.

5600+ Great performance great price

Strengths: Good price to performance ratio.

Weakness: Stock HSF is a joke...plan on buying something better

This is by far the best AMD CPU that I have used. It OCs decent and stays very cool. As I mentioned the stock HSF is trash sell it and buy yourself a nice aftermarket setup. For the price I paid very very happy.

Kinder Gentler FX-62 Processor at a Great Price

Strengths: 3 Year Warranty, Very Fast, Stock Cooler is Quiet and Easy to Install, Power Consumption no higher than X2 3800+, Perfect DDR2 Memory Multiplier Ratio

Weakness: Cannot beat the Core 2 Duo 6600 in performance or power consumption

This processor is a low cost FX-62 that runs cooler and uses less energy for the same performance. Runs circles around Core 2 Duo 6400/6420. The AMD Athlon 64 motherboards are usually much cheaper than their Intel counterparts. Upgraded one of my machines from a X2 3800+ running Vista Ultimate and now the OS and apps I use regularly are much more responsive.

For Games and Apps

Strengths: Fast, good for multiple tasking, very good for multimedia, not bad for gaming.

Weakness: It gets hot easy when you OC it to the max.

This CPU is fine if you are not trying to Overclock it above 3.1ghz.I managed to OC it from 2.8Ghz to 3.12Ghz using standard fan which i got with 5600 in retail box, temp is 40c-45c.I'll change it to aftermarket fan, to lower the temp. After all for $140 you get preety much good CPU for all things you want to use like games, software, internet, multimedia.Of course it's not only CPU what makes...
