AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Processor

At the nerw price, it's a beautiful thing...

Strengths: Really fast, one of the sharpest price drops in the latest round of AMD/Intel processor wars.

Weakness: Idles warm, single core.

amd fx55

Strengths: Fast, runs cool, and overclock ability is a little above average.

Weakness: not the fx57

This little chip packs a big punch and when you overclock this bad boy it performs like a raging bull, given proper cooling conditions are met. I would highly reccomend this chip if you can get it at a resonable price. Mine was in the mid 600's.

Since then, I paired up an Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard, the FX-55 retail cpu, 1 GB of Corsair TWINX 1024-3200XLPRO memory, and an AGP ATI 9800 Pro 128MB video card.

Games scream now especially JO Typhoon Rising and JO Expansion, Rome Total War doesn't even slow it down, applications run like there isn't anything else running on the computer. I can't believe how fast this cpu is, Pictures load instantly instead of the slow refresh the P4 did. Everything is fast now!

With my old system, it was so loud I had to keep a door closed so the rest of the family could hear the TV, the heatsink with the Athlon is fantastic! The big copper tubes pull the heat away, and the fan is pretty quiet. Under load, it only runs 116 F/41C and I have overclocked the cpu 3% (2678 Mhz) with Asus's bios setup options.

I can't say enough about this chip, it is the fastest one out there, at this time. Its really something to see! If you can afford the chip, especially if your a gamer, go for this cpu, you won't be sorry!! I know I won't be going back to Intel!!

One word. It's FAST. Nothing is probably faster than this monster. I haven't tried OC it yet, but as soon as my Zalman 7700-Cu arrives, the game is done. I'm running this with 2GB of Crucial Ballistix PC3200 and MSI Neo2 Platinum, and... nothing is faster!!! I had my P4 3.06 clocked to 3.45 and had benchmark on FFXI and it came out about 4500 with my FX5950 Ultra, but this thing pushed the bench...

One word. It's FAST. Nothing is probably faster than this monster. I haven't tried OC it yet, but as soon as my Zalman 7700-Cu arrives, the game is done. I'm running this with 2GB of Crucial Ballistix PC3200 and MSI Neo2 Platinum, and... nothing is faster!!! I had my P4 3.06 clocked to 3.45 and had benchmark on FFXI and it came out about 4500 with my FX5950 Ultra, but this thing pushed the bench all the way up to 6500+ around 7000. this is amazing. I'm looking forward to the new heatsink.

Strengths: The fastest Gaming CPU on this planet, beats any P4 including Extreme Edition.

Weakness: $$$ is an Issue

I won this cpu at a game tournament in taiwan. Being computer ignorant, i was suprised to see this processor on sale for xxx$+. I was about to sell it, but my friends advised me to keep it. paired with 1gig corsair xms ram and an x800xt(thanks asus!!) which i was given, I was able to play doom3 on all the highest settings without an itch. This processor is only for the incredibly rich spoiled kids, or gamers that plan to pg d3, though i dont think thats a very good game to go pro at because of its poor game play =. maybe hl2 will be better?
