GigaByte GA-X38-DQ6 Motherboard

Strengths: 1333FSB, Intel X-38 Chipset, support for the nw 45nm CPU's, excellent overclocking utility, PCIe 2.0, supports up to 8, GB of DDR2 memory, ATI Crossfire support, excellent packaging.

Weakness: None so far

I upgraded my system from an Asus P5B Deluxe Motherboard to the Gigabyte GA-X-38 DQ6 board and am very happy with the Gigabyte board. Firstly, the board's blue PCB and multi-colored slots make one great looking piece of hardware. Moving beyond aesthetics, the board is extremely well laid-out with ample headers, slots and ports conveniently placed. Intel's X-38 Express Chipset supports all the...

OVERCLOCKING KING

Strengths: GOOD BOARD LAY OUT, AS THE TITLE STATES, OVERCLOCKS VERY WELL, PENRYN READY. LOTS of BIOS features...

Weakness: EXPENSIVE, NO SATA CONNECTION in 90 DEGREES ANGLE, BACK PLATE PREVENTS COOLER FROM GETTING MOUNTED.

My 1st entire system upgrade from ABIT ICG-MAX3;P4 3.4Gig:ATI X850XT AGP, DDR 400 SATA RAID 0. My patience PAID off. I carefully read all the motherboard reviews in the net from the reputable TECH sites and choose this. I am always an overclocker fan so this fits the bill for me. E2160, 3.4Gigs no problem with litle voltage modification just like it was reported on those PC enthusiast web sites....

Extremely Stable Board

Strengths: Stability even when overclocked to the limit - X38 chipset fully compatible with newer Intel Quad Core, and was built around them, unlike older chipsets which rely on BIOS updates.

Weakness: None

I sold my Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 and purchased a newer Quad Extreme which I slapped into my Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard with the 680i Chipset. Even though I updated to the latest BIOS, which allowed the older chipset, which was on the market before the first quad core hit the market, to recognize my CPU, I started getting at least 2 to 3 BSOD per day. I checked everything, and I mean...

Work in progress

Strengths: To Be Determined

Weakness: Initial build yielded No POST. Boot cycle problem as otherwise cited. See comments.

Gigabyte tech support advised put-on anti-stat strap, disconnect all external power, turn off power supply, remove all memory sticks, disconnect HDDs and optical drives; leave 8 & 24 pin power connectors, FDD and graphics card in; remove CMOS battery; with small screw driver hold down silver clip in center of CMOS battery holder for 10 seconds (THIS APPEARS TO BE TRICK to resolve my no-POST, boot...
